FAQ: Gameplay Boulder Bluff
Playing climb cards with effects (the cards featuring animals) does not interfere with the technique bonus.
For example: if you play 3 orange climb cards and 1 animal climb card, you still receive a +3 technique bonus added to your climb strength.
You only take an injury token if:
- Your climb strength is lower than the value on the boulder card, and
- You have at least one claimed boulder card that has either:
1. a finger injury token, or
2. no injury token on it.
How it works:
- If the card has no injury token, flip the token and place the result on your claimed boulder card.
- If the card already has a finger injury, only upgrade it to a shoulder injury if the result you flip is a shoulder injury.
- If you have no claimed boulder cards, or all your claimed cards already have a shoulder injury, you do not take an injury token.
For a variant, injuries can affect your climbing strength instead of just your score.
In this mode, during Step 4: Counting Strength, apply these penalties:
- Shoulder injury: the card counts -3
- Finger injury: the card counts -2 (instead of -1)
