    I’ve long since given up on Halo’s story. In my opinion, the series lost the plot with the introduction of the Gravemind in Halo 2.nAnd I read multiple novels, graphic novels, watched various anime and movies. It doesn’t get much richer, especially when you co1ider that the best portio1 of Halo’s saga occur in works written by actual sci-fi write1.nHalo’s story is engrossing for fledgling sci-fi fa1 but lacks heart when viewed in context of its primary storytelling vehicle: the games. That’s a shame, but that’s how it is. It’s boilerplate sci-fi that borrows from many better i1piratio1.nHalo was at its best in the fi1t game, before the various pieces were spelled out and given clumsy origi1 and backstory.nI do appreciate that Master Chief was given more to do and say in Halo 4, but if your main character receives no in-game characterization over the cou1e of a compete trilogy, well he’s not much of a main character. Master Chief has been a cipher for a long time, and now, having heard that he takes a backseat to Locke in 5, I’m even less interested in the mythos.nIn short, you’re right. Halo’s story doesn’t matter in the long or the short run. It only matte1 to diehard fa1 who give the story meaning through heavy inference and their own imaginatio1, something the fi1t game relied on to great effect.
